Change

Admittedly, there is a long way to go, but thus far, President Obama has fulfilled his campaign promise to bring change to Washington (I think that was his only campaign promise) by filling his cabinet with career politicians and insiders. No, I am not a political expert by any means, but I think I would have gone a different direction. I still contend that what he meant by the promise of change is that that is what my 401k will be reduced to by the end of his administration.

This is probably a smart move, actually, buffering his inexperience with people who know what they are doing. It just bothers me that the entire crux of his campaign was b.s. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I don't know that there is a politician in this day and age who doesn't lie his ass off. Maybe I'm an idealist, but I keep hoping that eventually someone will be different. All indications, however, are that I won't see that for at least 4 more years. Where is honest Abe when we need him most? I think I might vote for an honest candidate even if I didn't agree with his politics, just because he was honest.

There are politicians that don't like; problem is, by doing so they never become elected politicians, or party nominated etc. Democracy is such a joke. Anyone who thinks everyone in America should get the same number of votes hasn't met enough Americans. ;) BS like tax breaks for the "poor" or more to the point the masses (largest number of voters we can find) is literally just buying people's votes with tax dollars instead of cash. Politicians have no use for an individual’s vote; they play to the demographics. They don't need any given one of us, so long as they win the majority of us. "Nascar Dads", "Religious Right", "Dixiecrats", the list of demographics they ooze to in order to get there massive voting numbers is gross. I can't believe we try to force this crap on other countries under the pretense that it's the best system and somehow protects people's freedoms.

Ron Paul baby.

Obama is a "liar" because he did not fill his cabinet with inexperienced people?

He never said he was going to do that, and of course that would not be smart.

There has already been plenty of "change" ushered in by this new administration. Reversing Bushs policy on torture, to name one example.

"It just bothers me that the entire crux of his campaign was b.s."

Really? Thats seems unfounded. I am sure you noted during the campaign that "change" was not clearly defined, other than some statements about trying to be bi-partisan.

His cabinet picks included some Republicans. That’s the “bi-partisan” part of the campaign promises. And it’s undisputable that their have already been changes from the previous administration. Another example is taking steps to close Guantanamo; something Obama and McCain both promised.

Rather than telling lies, Obama was honest in a way no politican has been before. He admitted up front he wanted to raise taxes! On people making over 200,000. You have to admit that is something that no political strategist would ever recommend.

You saw he picked an experienced cabinet, and decided that means he is a liar. Examine that. It is a ridiculous thing to say.
You just don’t like the guy, so you are making up stuff that is false. Why not dislike him for differences you have with him on policy issues? Perhaps because that would require you to actually read up on policy, and develop and defend your own opinions. You dont seem to want to make that much of an effort.

People disliked Bush because he invaded a country that was not a threat to America. What did Obama do to earn your ire? He picked an experienced cabinet, after you thought he wouldn't do that. What a crime.

Anyway, want to go to lunch at the Indian place Friday?

So let me see if I have this straight. I cite reference to support my opinion and I'm accused of not doing my homework? Maybe instead of dismissing any dissenting opinion as being uninformed you should try listening to other opinions rather than simply regurgitating what you were told you should think about things by NPR.

For a guy who spends so much time decrying the alleged "Republican tactic" of name calling instead of debating the issues, I'm pretty surprised to see how often you will dismiss an opinion simply by calling it "uninformed."

You mention Obama keeping his campaign promise of raising taxes, however when during the campaign I said that one of my reasons for not supporting him was that he would raise taxes, you dismissed that as "believing the lies."

Obama's supporters "voted for somebody they thought was going to bring a different tone to Washington and make use of people not in terms of their partisanship but in terms of what they can bring to an issue, and he's set out to do that," said Martha Joynt Kumar, director of the White House Transition Project. And you say that I'm the only one who thinks he positioned himself as a Washington outsider during his campaign? I have to say that nothing says business as usual like appointing career politicians to your cabinet. I agree that filling his cabinet with inexperienced people wouldn't have been a good idea, but that's exactly what he led people to believe he would do during his campaign. Yes it's a catch 22, but that's what he set himself up for.

Here's to hoping you'll be more open minded in the future.

Oh, and I don't dislike Obama. I don't trust him, but I don't dislike him. I will readily admit that I despise his choice of Secretary of State - Hillary Clinton. She's got a personality that reminds me of Bobbi. But I've got nothing against Barack.

So in conclusion, I'm kind of burned out on Indian food at the moment. Maybe next week I'll be ready for more.

If someone thinks nothing has changed since Obama took office, and that means that his whole campaign to bring "change" was a lie, I believe they are "uninformed."

That's not name calling, it's just a fact.

I am not saying you have to LIKE what change he has brought, I am only saying that is it a verifiable fact that some very important things have changed already.

His promise to raise taxes is an example of honesty. He didn't lie about it to save some votes, he told the truth about his plan.

Of course my real intent was only to angry up your blood.

The downtown lunch scene has become a drag. I should start bringing my lunch but I am too lazy.
