Tale of the Runaways
I have been on a new music frenzy recently and this frenzy has led me to Maylene & The Sons of Disaster. Most of the songs I've heard aren't very good, but this one hooked me in. It's more melodic and mellow than their other songs. I can't help listening to it repeatedly.
Through the magic of google, I found a site called imeem.com that had an embeddable mp3 which seemed great except that I couldn't get it to work, and when I tried going back to the link it wanted me to sign up for something to listen to it again. So now I'm stuck with the only other version I can find, which unfortunately is set to the backdrop of a stupid cartoon, but what are you going to do? Anyway, the song is haunting and I love the harmony.

37 Stitches

I'm pretty proud of the band for going to Iraq to perform for the troops with the USO and campaigning for better mental health care for returning soldiers. The song Soldiers was written to honor our soldiers and half the proceeds from their 'This is for the soldiers' tour went to fund mental health care for them. You can read more about it here.
Anyway, back to 37 stitches, it's a little slower and melodic than their previous offerings. I love the harmonies and haunting guitars. I'm not really sure what the song is about but assume a bad relationship. I could listen to this song over and over though. I think I'll learn to play it.

Monster Magnet
I've been taking a trip down memory lane today musically speaking and came across this awful video that I haven't seen in years. I also haven't heard the song in years and to this day have absolutely no idea what Negasonic Teenage Warhead means. But what struck me about this video isn't any of those things, it's that it was directed by Gore Verbinski (according to one source anyway). Gore went on to direct the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and according to IMDB is currently slated to direct Bioshock - a great video game but no doubt what will turn out to be a horrible movie. Anyway, that got me thinking about what other directors got their start with music videos and I don't even know where to start looking. It's probably a simple google search to find out, but I'm too lazy even for that.
When you're done with this one, check out Space Lord, filmed in front of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. I just ate lunch there last week! And that reminds me, special thanks go out to Monster Magnet for providing a great nickname for one particular individual who is notorious for spacing out. Rock on.
