Quote of the Day

"If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain."

Winston Churchill

If you are fond of eating brains, you are probably a zombie. But you also might be a Libertarian.

...and if at 45, you can define yourself with a one word label, you are a simpleton.

British conservatism would be called socialism in the US. It's way more pragmatic and less pious than what we have here.

…Also, Churchill never said that. It would be hilarious if he did, since he was in the conservative party when he was younger, then he was in the liberal party when he was older.

Still, that old quote (whoever said it) is loved by conservatives for obvious reasons.

Well, I found a site with it attributed to Churchill. And perhaps I should have done a little more research before perpetuating that , but according to http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill

the actual quote was from mid-nineteenth century historian and statesman Francois Guizot who said, "Not to be a republican at 20 is proof of want of heart; to be one at 30 is proof of want of head."Variants: Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.
Show me a young conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.
If you are not a socialist by the time you are 25, you have no heart. If you are still a socialist by the time you are 35, you have no head.

Still, it is the inherant truth that is why that quote is loved by conservatives and hated by liberals.
