Aquaman

With the proliferation of superhero movies being made these days, they are really scraping the bottom of the comic book barrel. Granted, some of the comic book characters that I've never heard of have actually ended up in watchable movies - I was surprised to find that I enjoyed both Constantine and Hellboy - but with Aquaman, they are really going too far. Is there any way in the world it won't be a complete disaster? I'm really getting the campy Batman tv show vibe. Aquaman is one of the lamest superheros ever, how can they possibly make a movie about him that isn't a complete bomb. It might even be a worse move than making a Wonder Twins movie. Anyway it reminded me of the Dave Chappelle bit I saw years ago on Dr. Katz.

And speaking of Dr. Katz, if it wasn't $80, I'd order the complete series on DVD. 1782 minutes of hilarity, not to mention the worst animation in television history.

Pain In The Grass

Sevendust recently released a video for the song Prodigal Son - their first video in quite some time. I'm not sure why really since it'll never get played on tv. The only people that will see it are those who watch it on the internet. Regardless, here it is.

One of the reasons I bring this up - it's not just because I love Sevendust - is that I also found out recently that they will be playing with Queensryche, Drowning Pool, and a few other bands at Pain in the Grass on 8/23. Now I'm dying to go to that show, and since it's just days after my birthday, anybody that needs an idea for a present.... Actually I'll most likely get my tickets long before then, but that brings me to my next point, who else is in? Is anybody out there interested in going to the show with me? Let me know and we can start making arrangements, although I assume this is another show I'll be attending alone.

Oscar Gamble

Watching the Mariner game last night, the camera focused on a fan with a giant afro and naturally that got me thinking about Oscar Gamble. That man had unquestionably the biggest hair in major league history if not in the history of sports in general. Behold the giantness of it and tremble in fear.
But the fun doesn't end there. While 'researching' (looking for pictures of) Oscar Gamble I stumbled upon an enjoyable feature titled Baseball's all-time all-hair team. The highlight being this little gem: In 1977, Oscar Gamble's hat size was 10 3/4. That's pretty large.

I've grown my hair pretty long in my day, but it never approached the sheer magnitude of Oscar's. While long, mine never achieved 'big' status. It's a shame really. It would have taken a great deal of product for me to embiggen my hair, and unfortunately I was always too lazy for that. Anyway, I don't want to leave you with just one picture, so please enjoy this second one free of charge.

Friday's Question

The question for you to ponder today is a simple one: If you could sucker punch anyone on the Mariners, who would it be? This is not limited to the players either, if you aren't experiencing Rigglemania anymore and think Jim Riggleman needs a good beating, he's fair game. If you hold a grudge like Howard Lincoln and think he deserves a sock in the neck, or even if for some reason you want to let one of the ball girls have it, they are all included. Also for the purposes of this little game, there are no repercussions to your actions, but it does have to be limited to just one individual.

In an attempt to not influence your decision in any way, I'll post my guy in the comments section. Some reasons why you think your individual deserves a sock in the neck should also be included.

** Rigglemania is a registered trademark of the Craw Fu corporation. Use or description of this term without the expressed written consent of Craw Fu and it's subsidiaries is strictly prohibited.

Weird

I guarantee that this is the weirdest thing you'll see all day. I have no words to describe it.

I Just Realized

....that I haven't said anything in a while. I guess it's about time I did something about that. I have just been extremely short on sleep and as a result had almost no attention span. Anything I had on my mind quickly left before I could type it up. That combined with some of the worst pain and swelling I've had in weeks have left me really unmotivated. I know it's getting to be a pretty worn out refrain from me lately, but I can't begin to express how badly I want this fixator off. I've broken bones before, but I've never had any injury that has been this unpleasant and painful for this long. It's been 5 weeks since the surgery and almost 6 since I broke the finger and I'm still experiencing daily pain and about half the mobility. Had I known this 6 weeks ago, I would have thought long and hard about going the Ronnie Lott route and just cutting it off.

A few people keep trying to convince me to watch The Office. I liked the BBC version, but the US version I have just been unable to get into. Granted I've only seen 3 or 4 episodes, but it just isn't as funny as the original. And it doesn't help that I don't care for Steve Carell. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything good. Sure he's been in ok movies, but nothing I'd call good. But I digress, people have told me things that have happened in The Office that are funny, but I haven't seen them. None of the episodes I've seen have been more than mildly amusing. And certainly nothing as funny as the free love freeway episode of the BBC version. You should probably google that.

R.I.P. George Carlin

George Carlin died of heart failure at the age of 71 today - June 22nd. I know his style of humor wasn't for everyone - he could be offensive and abrasive - but he was a thinking man's comic with an unusual view on life. I'll miss his insights, even the ones I didn't see eye to eye with him on. For all the drugs he did and all the hard living on the road, he lived to a long life and his death really can't be considered untimely. He should be celebrated instead of mourned and I hope he found some happiness in his life before his death, he was an angry, bitter man.

I did a little searching and found this video that isn't too long. There are a few f bombs, so if you're at work, beware. And the volume is really low so you'll have to crank it to hear him. It's good stuff though. As a matter of fact it's all about stuff.

World's Ugliest Dog

It's that time of year again, time for the World's Ugliest Dog competition. This year's winner is Gus, a Chinese crested with one, three legs, and skin cancer. Pictures and video are here. But as hideous as some of these dogs are, a few have owners that are even uglier. And this link is safe for work, but not safe for meal time. For winning, Gus takes home two trophies and a $1600 jackpot. Not bad for a day's work.

More pictures and info here.

King of Kong

I watched King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters again this weekend and can't express how amusing it really is. I found this clip of the movie which is one of my favorite scenes. Make sure you watch until the end. I'll give you this little bit of set up. Steve Wiebe is making a run at the world record for Donkey Kong when one of his kids come running into the room, screaming at the top of his lungs .... well you'll have to watch the hilarity ensue.

In Focus Photos

Here are some photos of my medieval torture device that are in focus! You have no idea how hard that was to do one handed, and left handed at that. I didn't shrink down the size of the photos any before uploading them, so if you click on them be prepared for a huge version. The good news is that it's just 9 more days until I get this accursed thing off. June 30th can't come soon enough for me. I can't tell you how many times I've banged that thing on something because it's so obtrusive. The worst being a couple weeks ago when I tried to reach into my glove compartment and hit it on the dash. I got all the pain of breaking it all over again plus I scratched my dash. Good times. Occurrences such as that usually lead to swearing and wanting to hit something, quickly followed by the realization that hitting something isn't a good idea, even more quickly followed by more swearing.

At the physical therapist this week I was told that I still only have 55º range of motion at the PIP joint - or proximal interphalangeal joint (middle joint) and normal range of motion is 105º, so I still have a long way to go. And it turns out, this web site has a pretty good picture of what kind of happened to my finger. I did in fact have a volar subluxation as pictured and described about halfway down. I didn't have any ligament damage but I did have a reasonably large piece of bone in the middle phalanx pulled away from the joint, or 'avulsed' as it is called here.

But anyway, I'm babbling now and that usually means it's time to stop. The important thing is June 30th I'm free of this contraption. I'm going to have to see if I can get a picture of one of the x-rays to put up here. Hopefully one pre-surgery and one post-surgery for comparison/contrast purposes. It's pretty weird to see the x-rays with the pins going through the finger. And I'm really hoping to not have the opportunity to see through my finger after the pins are removed.

I'm also really looking forward to being able to write legibly again. It will be nice to be able to tie my shoes or get my keys out of my pocket without difficulty. Take my shirt or coat off without fear of it snagging on the screws and feeling like it's ripping my finger off. Being able to put a rubber glove on so I can wash dishes. I really can't wait to get this thing off. But I'm babbling again.
